
Rector of UPZ, Prof. dr. Dr. Ramë Vataj, participated in the Conference of Rectors in Portugal, within the framework of the European Universities' Games 2018.
Rector of University “Ukshin Hoti” Prizren, Prof. Dr. Ramë Vataj attended the Conference of Rectors at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, within the framework of the European Universities’ Games 2018, organized by the European Federation of Sports Universities. In this conference, 40 representatives of various European Universities attended, where was discussed about the importance of organizing university sports.
On this occasion, the UPZ Rector has signed the Coimbra Consensus Statement on Improving Double Care, evaluating it as a key issue for the education system and for all sports organizations. Based on this statement, higher education institutions should develop and develop a proper dual career environment for students-athletes, including the appropriate regulatory and financial framework, while respecting the differences between sports.
In this conference were also attended by representatives of various sports organizations and institutions in Europe. Together with the representatives of the universities discussed the best experiences regarding the organization of university sports, financing etc
The conference was opened by the President of the European Association of University Sports, Adam Roczek, who spoke about the importance in terms of health for students, which has the organization of sports games between universities. According to him, sport is one of the essential parts of social life even in the academic context.
Rector Vataj assessed as an important step for UPZ the participation in this conference, where in the future the students of UPZ will be able to participate.
The European University Games Coimbra 2018 is the biggest sporting event in Europe of the year and the biggest multisport event ever organized in Portugal. Over 4,000 participants from major sports universities in Europe came to compete in 13 sports between 15 and 28 July 2018.
In addition to sports competitions, the games focus on the educational and social aspects of university sports in Europe, including conferences and workshops on Anti-Doping, Involvement, Dual Careers, and the Rectors’ Conference. The legacy of the games will be visibly clear, as support from many institutions across Europe and the local community will help develop university sports facilities in Coimbra. The games also received support from the European Union’s Erasmus + program.
